Portland Loves: Icon Tattoo Studio

Local Business Monday . Icon Tattoo

Icon Tattoo is located in a gorgeous old brick building on N. Russell St., just off N. Mississippi Ave.  Owned by Melanie Nead, it embodies an old-world charm with a feminine touch.  Melanie had been a tattoo artist for many years when she was presented with the opportunity to start her own business.  She chose to go for it when she realized there was a niche she could fill.  That niche was a place which would be accessible to all people; one that was inviting and welcoming to the general public.

Melanie enjoys creating and all things crafty and feels that tattooing is connected to that.  So, she has established a beautiful retail space within the parlor that showcases local artists and their work.  It is easy to see Melanie's favorite things when you walk in the door of Icon- Victorian art, typography, Natural History, and Art Nouveau, which have come together in this beautiful space with ease.

Icon is proud to support nonprofits within the community and believes that "more community equals more profit."  They put on their first art show last winter, where a percentage of the sales went to P:ear, a local organization aimed at mentoring homeless youth.  It was a huge success and they plan to do more of those in the future.  Men and women work at Icon, so if you've been thinking about getting your next (or first!) tattoo, you are sure to find someone there who is right for you.

Icon is located at:

813 N. Russell St.
